One of our previous students, Donika Shrauger from Bozeman, MT recently decided to try the Tandem hitch. She drove a team of four horses for a mutual friend, but wanted to try something new so she asked Alex for more help.
Getting the lines – lined out. Horses did great!
Still getting comfortable with the lines but Donika decided after driving a team of four – the tandem was not as challenging as she thought it would be. It is different since the lead horse has no reason to stay in line with the wheel horse except for training and willingness.
Lining out real nice!
Everyone is feeling more comfortable.
The difficult task is to NOT let the lead horse go in draft, meaning he is not suppose to pull the load. His job is to be out there in case the going gets tough and he is needed.
Donika stayed a couple days to drive the tandem and was very happy with how the boys drove. She competed with them at her next CDE.
